Central Province Lay Dominicans Meet
PLYMOUTH, MI - October 30, 2009 --
The Lay Dominicans of the St. Albert the Great (Central) Province held their annual Provincial Council meeting October 22 -25, 2009. Delegates from the lay chapters of the province met at St. John's Conference Center in Plymouth, MI, to pray together, conduct the business of the province's laity and socialize.
The newly appointed Provincial Promoter, Rev. Matthew Walsh, OP, of Madison, WI, was named by the Prior of the Province to replace Rev. James Motl, OP, of St. Louis, MO, who had announced his retirement because of health reasons. The members expressed their appreciation for his seven years of effective service to the laity.
During days of liturgical prayer combined with business and social sessions, the delegates were able to experience a newly revised ceremonial for the laity, discuss and approve changes in by-laws, recommend changes in organizational procedures and elect new officers.
The new officers who are elected for a three year term are president Ms Karen Sabourin, OP of the Blessed Sacrament Chapter, Farmington Hills, MI and Mr. Joseph Komadina, OP of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Chapter, St. Louis, MO. They, with the Provincial Promoter, form the executive committee of the council and have appointed committee chairs and representative to other groups.
