Central Province Lay Dominicans Meet   
             
             PLYMOUTH, MI -  October 30, 2009 -- 
            The Lay Dominicans of the St. Albert the Great  (Central) Province held their annual Provincial Council meeting October  22 -25, 2009.  Delegates from the lay chapters of the province met  at St. John's Conference Center in Plymouth, MI, to pray together, conduct the  business of the province's laity and socialize.   
            The newly appointed Provincial Promoter, Rev. Matthew Walsh,  OP, of Madison, WI, was named by the Prior of the Province to replace Rev.  James Motl, OP, of St. Louis, MO, who had announced his retirement because of  health reasons.  The members expressed their appreciation for his seven  years of effective service to the laity.  
            During days of liturgical prayer combined with business and  social sessions, the delegates were able to experience a newly revised  ceremonial for the laity, discuss and approve changes in by-laws, recommend  changes in organizational procedures and elect new officers.  
          The new officers who are elected for a three year term are  president  Ms Karen Sabourin, OP of the Blessed Sacrament Chapter,  Farmington Hills, MI and Mr. Joseph Komadina, OP of the Queen of the  Holy Rosary Chapter, St. Louis, MO.  They, with the Provincial Promoter,  form the executive committee of the council and have appointed committee chairs  and representative to other groups.  Details can be found on the  website:  www.laydominicancentral.org.      |
